Steven P. Smith is a member of the Hinkle Law Firm LLC in Wichita. Since joining the firm in 1998, he has focused his practice on helping employers understand and comply with the many different laws that affect the benefits they provide to their employees, including ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, the Internal Revenue Code, and the Affordable Care Act. He is a frequent public speaker, has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America, and, since 2003, has been a contributing author to the book, Group Health Plans: Federal Mandates Other Than COBRA and HIPAA, which is published by the Employee Benefits Institute of America (EBIA), a division of Thomson Reuters. Prior to joining the firm, he served as in-house counsel for Thorn Americas, Inc., for more than seven years and as a research attorney at the Kansas Court of Appeals for two years.
