Bonjour! My name is Doug Bartel, and I am a 3L originally from Olathe, Kansas. After earning both my B.A. and M.A. in French from KU, I have a lot of affection for the University and Lawrence. One of the highlights of my time in the French Department was spending a little over a year living, working and playing in Lyon, France.

After graduating with my M.A., I joined Teach for America (TFA) and was placed in Kansas City. While in TFA, I taught ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) for two years, and then eventually moved into school administration. Over the course of these four years, I realized that addressing the most pressing needs of my refugee and immigrant students was going to require more specialized skills and abilities, so I decided it was time to attend law school.

The ambassadors had a big impact on my decision to attend KU Law. When I met my ambassador, it was as though I was talking to an old friend. We shared similar life experiences and interests, and it was invaluable to see myself represented in the student body almost as soon as I walked through the doors of Green Hall. When I was looking at law schools, I was looking for a school with a research-oriented faculty that was both highly respected in the legal community and approachable. I found that and so much more at KU Law.

I am excited to be a KU Law Student Ambassador and to share my experiences. I look forward to meeting you!
