Hello! My name is Jamie Treto, and I am a third-year law student from Garden City, Kansas. I moved to Lawrence three years ago to earn my bachelor’s degree in political science from KU.

While in undergrad, I spent some time working in Washington, D.C. for a nonprofit organization. During my time there, I met an astronaut, worked under the former Executive Director of the CIA, and learned about the importance of public service. I fell in love with the city and fell more so when I found out that there was a large community of former Jayhawks in the area. Although I was over a thousand miles away from Lawrence, people knew exactly where I came from when I wore my KU gear.

When choosing a law school, I wanted to select a law school known and highly respected around the country. My experience in D.C. made me realize that KU Law was just that. When I learned about the small class sizes, kind professors and welcoming community, it only solidified my decision to attend KU Law. After living in this beautiful college town for three years, I could not fathom moving anywhere else just yet.

As a first-generation law student, I know how intimidating applying to law school can be. But you should never feel alone. If you need any help with the process or need someone to talk to, I encourage you to reach out. We are here to answer any questions you may have. I hope to see you in Green Hall soon. Rock Chalk!
