Hi! Welcome to the University of Kansas School of Law. My name is Kriston Guillot, and I am a 3L from Shawnee, Kansas. After graduating with my bachelor’s in business administration from KU in 2006, I entered the pharmaceutical sales industry and also worked independently as a sales and marketing consultant for a home health agency.
As a nontraditional student, it was important for me to be in a comfortable environment where I could thrive and grow. I considered major metropolitan areas where I had family and friends, but KU Law was the best place for me and the best decision I could have made. It was familiar, and it was home. The combination of academic reputation and welcoming atmosphere is what makes KU Law stand out. A KU Law degree is respected across the country. I know that no matter where I decide to reside after graduation, I will be proud of my alma mater.
Transitioning back to an academic environment worried me at first. I was concerned that I’d be the old guy in a class of newly degreed undergraduates. I came to learn that simply isn’t the case. KU Law has students in a broad range of ages, and my work experience has been an invaluable resource for understanding the practical implications of the law. There are so many clubs and organizations to join to help meet new friends while exploring legal interests. Currently, I am a member of the Black Law Students Association.
I see law school as the gateway to my family’s future. My law degree will ensure stability and a strong career, which is my optimal goal. Our Career Services Office understands that and is very supportive. I am constantly impressed with the work they do around the country to make KU Law graduates preferred for legal positions. They set up law firm receptions, bring in speakers from other legal entities, and develop mentor/student relationships with established KU Law alumni. I am confident they will help prepare me for success.
When I was considering KU Law, I took advantage of the open houses and available tours of Green Hall. It really helped me get a sense of the people I would know and the environment I would be a part of for the next three years. I encourage anyone considering law school to do the same. I look forward to sharing more of my experiences with you soon! Rock Chalk!
