Hey! My name is Valeria Carbajal, and I’m currently a 1L here at the University of Kansas School of Law. I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, where I attended the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). I graduated with a double major in criminal justice and psychology in May 2018.

I heard about the Law School Preparation Institute (LSPI) at UTEP my junior year, and I decided to give it a shot to see if law school was something I wanted to pursue. I realized quickly that it was definitely the career for me, so I began the law school application process!

After applying to a ton of law schools, my visit to KU was what sealed the deal! I was nervous about moving so far away from home and experiencing the culture shock I had heard so much about. I have felt nothing short of welcome during my time here, and I’m happy to be able to say that Lawrence, Kansas is my home away from home. The KU Law faculty, staff and students I have met are all amazing, and I’m so thankful to have met them!

Although I’m still adjusting to this new chapter of my life, I’m more than happy to answer any questions about the process. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any KU Law Student Ambassador if you have any questions about KU Law! Rock Chalk!
