Judge, Kansas Court of Appeals

Karen Arnold-Burger
"Someone told me once that you don’t pick your practice, your practice picks you, and I think that’s right."

“When I went to law school I convinced myself that I wanted to be a labor lawyer; that was always my dream. My first job was at an energy corporation in Texas doing labor law. I wasn’t really enjoying what I was doing, so I came back to Kansas, took a job as a prosecutor, and from a person who felt like I never wanted to be in the courtroom, I fell in love with it. I continued through a prosecutor career, through the U.S. attorney’s office, and then back as a municipal judge, so it just all fell into place.”

“Someone told me once that you don’t pick your practice, your practice picks you, and I think that’s right. I knew KU had a great reputation and I knew I couldn’t go wrong here – the money was right.”
