Wheat Law Library Collections

Wheat Law Library holds a vast collection of print and digital legal resources. This includes reference materials, texts, databases, journal subscriptions, learning aids, and unique collections.

General Collection

Our general collection covers a wide range of legal topics in multiple formats. It is accessible to KU Law affiliates on and off campus. The general public are welcome to come and use services on the 2nd floor of the library. For research help, you can meet with one of your reference librarians.

Raymond F. Rice Collection

The Raymond F. Rice Collection, located on the fifth floor, has been provided by the late Raymond F. Rice, L'1908 and a former member of the School of Law faculty. The Rice Collection includes selected United States and Kansas primary materials, selected primary search materials, major law reviews, treatises, and dictionaries.

Legal History Collection

The library’s Legal History Collection, located in room 200F, houses a wide variety of materials. In addition to multiple rare books and prints, there are also a number of items related to the history of the law school. Judge James K. Logan and former professor Paul E. Wilson both donated their papers to the collection. Donated items focusing on the Brown vs. Board of Education case and a large group of binders covering Media and the Law are also included.

Special Collections

Located on the fourth floor, Wheat Law Library has several small collections of books focusing on unique subjects. Professors Francis Heller, Robert Casad, James Logan, George Coggins, and John Head all donated the collections that are named after them. The Optican International Trade Law Collection was donated by Professor Raj Bhala in honor of his friend Scott Optican. The China Law Collection contains items related to Chinese law and culture. The fourth floor also houses a faculty publications display focusing on international law and the Academic Resources Collection provides study aids for students.

Popular Reading Collection

The Popular Reading Collection is a leisurely reading collection available for checkout by KU Law patrons. It contains titles across multiple fiction and non-fiction genres. Stop by and browse the shelves on the 2nd floor.
