Graduation

Congratulations to the KU Law Class of 2021!

Congratulations to the KU Law Class of 2021 on your monumental achievement - of not just completing law school, but doing so under unusual and challenging conditions.

We welcome you as members of the University of Kansas School of Law alumni network. You now join a group of alumni across the nation and around the globe. Congratulations on all of your accomplishments during your time as a KU Law student, and best wishes as you head into the next phase of your career.

Celebrating the KU Law Class of 2021

The KU Law community is proud of all the Class of 2021's accomplishments. To celebrate the graduating class, the law school shared a virtual hooding ceremony including a message from Dean Stephen Mazza, congratulations from the KU Law faculty, and a reading of 2021 graduates.

Future Graduation Events

Information about future graduation events will be posted on this page as it becomes available.

Graduation and Hooding Ceremony Checklist

Law students need to verify their graduation date by checking the graduation list maintained by the registrar. Contact Registrar Vicki Palmer at vpalmer@ku.edu.

Additional steps:

  • Complete the Online Application for Degree Form in Enroll & Pay

The Career Services Office will conduct exit interviews with each member of the graduating class. If you have not completed an exit interview, please contact Assistant Dean Heather Spielmaker at hspielmaker@ku.edu.

Associate Dean Crystal Mai hosts a mandatory Hooding Ceremony information meeting in the spring. At this meeting, we review the ceremony process. Students pick up their Hooding Ceremony tickets and their class composite picture.

More information about the meeting date will be shared with each graduating class during the spring semester.

The third-year class votes to select faculty members who will be asked to serve as Marshals and the Hooder. Marshals lead the class into and out of the Lied Center auditorium for the Hooding Ceremony and down the Hill for Commencement. Students will be notified when the ballot is available.

Congratulations to the 2021 Marshals, Hooder and Banner Carrier:

Graduation announcements are available to order through the KU Bookstore.

Regalia (hood, robe, tam and tassel) will be available for purchase from the Kansas Union Bookstore. For more information, visit the KU Bookstore.

All family and friends attending the Hooding Ceremony, including young children, must have a ticket. Graduates will not need a ticket.

There typically is not a limit on the number of tickets you may request.

Check back for more information about how to sign up for tickets.

There is no formal dress code for the Hooding Ceremony. However, it is recommended that you wear flat or low-heeled shoes. Additionally, it is helpful to have something to anchor your hood if you are planning to participate in the University Commencement ceremony. Safety pins or a buttoned shirt usually work well.

Check back for details about the 2022 Hooding Ceremony schedule.

Ceremony instructions are typically posted in April and distributed at the Mandatory Hooding Ceremony Information Meeting in the spring.

KU Law traditionally hosts a reception and open house following the Hooding Ceremony. Graduating students and their family members are encouraged to stop by.

An RSVP form for the reception is typically sent out in March.

Check back for more information about when class composite photos will be distributed.

Graduates are encouraged to follow the university's process for receiving their diploma. Graduates who prefer to have their diplomas be mailed must complete the Diploma Delivery Request function in Enroll & Pay. Be sure to update your mailing address.

Visit the KU Commencement website for more information about diploma distribution.
