Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program
Overview
Each spring, law students from the University of Kansas provide free federal and state tax preparation services to those who qualify through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Spring 2025 Program Details
The service operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and the number of preparers varies with the site. Those seeking assistance are encouraged to show up near the start of each session. Please bring proof of identification and all relevant documentation, including proof of income and expenditures.
To qualify, taxpayers must:
- make less than $67,000 per year; and
- not itemize deductions.
Sessions begin on Monday, February 17, and end on Tuesday, April 14.
During the university's spring break, March 17-23, there will be no sessions.
