Global Programs at KU Law


Overview

KU Law offers a first-class program in international law at a major research university. Students have access to courses in the areas most relevant to practice around the world.

The law school's degree programs for international students include the Two-Year J.D. for Foreign-Trained Lawyers, LL.M. in American Legal Studies and Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.)

International students are integrated completely into the law school community, receiving full use of services such as advising and career placement. Additional offerings include a summer Legal English Program, the opportunity to connect with overseas visiting scholars, and access to many international partners. S.J.D. and LL.M. students may also elect to participate in KU Law's Free Bar Prep Program.

Conferences and guest lectures, study abroad opportunities, international moot court programs, active student organizations and a friendly, cosmopolitan environment round out the experience. Set in one of the top-ranked college towns in the United States, the University of Kansas School of Law is an excellent place for international and domestic students to begin or expand their legal careers.

For overseas students who already hold a foreign law degree, the Two-Year J.D. for Foreign-Trained Lawyers prepares attorneys to compete in a global economy with full credentials in the U.S.

LL.M. in American Legal Studies

The Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree provides students who already hold a law degree with an introduction to the breadth of American law. KU Law offers one of the nation's most affordable LL.M. programs.

The Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) program at KU Law is designed for students interested in deep legal research and writing, and a career as a legal scholar or a senior public official.

Legal English Program

The law school offers a Legal English Program for entering international students through KU's Applied English Center. The four-week summer program helps students prepare for law school.

Overseas Visiting Scholars Program

The law school regularly hosts visiting scholars from around the world. These scholars are warmly welcomed into the life of the law school, and receive access to law school services.

KU Law offers long-standing summer programs in Ireland and Turkey. Students can also choose to spend a semester studying at partner schools in Trento, Italy or Aberdeen, Scotland.
