Career Programs and Events

Through programming and reinvestment in our students, the Career Students Office helps law students explore employment options, pursue opportunities, anywhere their interests take them, and become highly competitive and polished candidates for those jobs.

Overview

The Career Services Office at the University of Kansas School of Law hosts a variety of career-related programming and events throughout the year. Offerings include on-campus interviews, job fairs, conferences, and networking events.

Stay up to date on the latest events by exploring KU Law’s career program and events calendar.

Career Exploration Series

KU Law invites employers in various fields of law to assist students in their discovery of practice areas that they could practice in their internships and post-graduate opportunities. Examples of this include panels on criminal, civil, family, JD advantage, environmental, government law and more.

Mentor Circles

The Career Services Office assists students in developing mentorship opportunities between students and practicing attorneys. Students who participate in this program have the opportunity to meet several attorneys in the region who can assist them with questions they may have throughout their law school experience.

Martin Pringle Presents: Speed Mock Interviews

Students who participate in this event are asked potential interview questions by regional employers. Students will be asked one question per employer, answer the question as if they are in an actual interview and receive immediate feedback on ways to improve their response. Employers who have participated in this previously have expressed notable improvement in those who have taken part in this event. Speed Mock Interviews is graciously sponsored by the Martin Pringle Law Firm of Wichita, Kansas.

Employment Expo and Recruitment Summit

Over 100 representatives from employers across the region come to KU Law each fall to meet the 1L class during the Employment Expo and Recruitment Summit.

Employers represent every possible career - from firms big and small to state and federal agencies to nonprofits and corporations. They are here to help you expand your horizons and understand the array of career options available with a KU Law degree. You will get to make connections that could lead to summer and post-graduate employment.

Public Interest Stipend Program

Through the generous support of the Bond family, the Bradley family, the Bremyer Fund, the Giffin family, and the Public Interest Law Student Fund, KU Law offers stipends to help students offset the expenses incurred when they take legal positions that serve the public. Applications generally open in March.

Travel Stipends

Wherever your career goals lead you, the CSO is here to offer support. Our travel stipend program can assist with the cost of traveling to distant interviews and career fairs.

Credential Stipends

Some career paths require additional expertise, on top of a law degree. The CSO can assist in covering the cost of preparing for and taking certification exams. Some examples are data privacy certifications, CPA and CFP licenses, and project management courses.
