Biography

Sharon Brett is Legal Director at the ACLU of Kansas, where she focuses on civil rights and liberties litigation and advocacy projects with a particular focus on criminal legal system reform. Prior to joining the ACLU, Sharon was a Senior Staff Attorney at Harvard Law School's Criminal Justice Policy Program. There, she conducted research and policy advocacy on economic and criminal justice issues and taught a class on race, poverty, and the criminal justice system.

After beginning her legal career as a clerk on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, Brett spent several years investigating and litigating police misconduct and prison conditions cases at the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, where she helped lead the Department's investigation of the Chicago Police Department.

She is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School and the University of Michigan.
