Biography —
David Hammack is a civil litigator with significant experience defending the United States in multidistrict and other complex litigation. He received his bachelor’s degree in political science at the University of Kansas. He then graduated from KU Law as a member of the Order of the Coif. He served in a number of roles throughout law school, including the Executive Board of the Kansas Law Review, President of the Student Bar Association, Mock Trial Council (and co-champion of the in-house Mock Trial competition) and Chief En Banc for the KU Court of Parking Appeals. During this time he took on additional positions coaching KU’s undergraduate Mock Trial team, tutoring 1L students and conducting practice sessions for the Multistate Performance Test component of the Bar Exam.
After graduating, Hammack joined the United States Department of Justice through the Attorney General’s Honors Program. For approximately seven years, he defended the United States as a Trial Attorney in the Environmental Torts Litigation Section within the DOJ Civil Division’s Torts Branch. During this time, he represented the United States throughout a variety of high profile complex cases, including running all aspects of discovery on behalf of the government in the third largest active litigation in the nation.
