As the midterm elections draw near, a slate of proposed laws and initiatives regarding the LGBTQ community, transgender athletes and related topics are on ballots across the nation.

Meet the KU Law Class of 2025

KU Law welcomed the Class of 2025 to Green Hall in August. The first-year class is made up of 137 students from 26 states and 73 undergraduate institutions. The class of 2025 also sets a KU Law record for the highest combined median LSAT score and undergraduate GPA.

Law professor receives award for innovation in scholarly communication

Professor Corey Rayburn Yung is one of two recipients of the 2022 David Shulenburger Award for Innovation & Advocacy in Scholarly Communication, granted by the KU Libraries. Yung has published two open-access law textbooks, Criminal Law and Sex Crimes.

Professor Kyle Velte has been appointed associate dean for faculty at KU Law. Velte will chair the law school’s faculty hiring committee, oversee course scheduling, and aid in research and scholarship production.

KU Law announces associate dean for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging

KU Law has announced the appointment of Jamila Jefferson-Jones, professor of law, as the new associate dean for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Jefferson-Jones joined the KU Law faculty in July and previously was a professor at Wayne State University and UMKC.

KU Legal Aid Clinic, Douglas County DA's Office and Lawrence Public Library to host criminal record expungement clinic

KU Law's Legal Aid Clinic will host a Clean Slate Criminal Record Expungement Clinic in partnership with the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office and Lawrence Public Library. The clinic will take place in person from noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Lawrence Public Library Auditorium.

Two KU Law professors elected to prestigious American Law Institute

Professors Uma Outka and Andrew Torrance are among 60 newly elected members of the American Law Institute, an independent national organization that produces scholarly work to clarify, modernize and otherwise improve the law. There are now nine active KU Law faculty who are members of the institute.

Study shows whistleblower programs marred by cronyism, mismanagement, secrecy

According to a new study by Alexander Platt, associate professor of law, government programs that pay “bounties” to whistleblowers who come forward have, themselves, been hampered by mismanagement, cronyism and abuse.
