Letter from Dean Mazza: 2023 Annual Report

This article is from the 2023 Annual Report of the University of Kansas School of Law.

Welcome

As we reflect on the achievements of the past fiscal year, it is with great pride that we acknowledge your unwavering support and dedication to the success of KU Law. And it has been a successful year. KU Law is now ranked among the Top 20 Public Law Schools in the nation by U.S. News.

Generosity from loyal alumni and friends like you enables us to extend vital scholarships based on both merit and financial need, which helps open up the possibility of a law degree to numerous students and helps ensure that debt loads remain manageable. Because of your gifts to our scholarship funds, KU Law students have some of the lowest average student debt loads in the nation. Lowering the cost of a legal education through scholarship support also led to KU Law being ranked the No. 4 Best Value Law School in the nation by National Jurist. That ranking was also bolstered by high bar passage rates, due in large part to our innovative bar exam preparation program, which provides a free
post-graduation bar prep course to all students.

Your commitment also empowers our students to navigate challenges and seize opportunities, whether through unpaid internships at public interest organizations, addressing community needs with free legal services or pursuing their passions with a greater focus on skill development.

In this annual report for fiscal year 2023, which concluded on June 30, we present a comprehensive list of law school donors and highlights of the transformative impact of your gifts. You may have heard that KU has kicked off a historic capital campaign entitled ‘Ever Onward.’ We hope that with your help, we can be an integral part of the university reaching its largest ever goal of raising $2.5 billion. If you would like to learn more about the law school’s priorities for the campaign, visit Ever Onward or contact me directly. I would love to hear from you.

Thank you for being a vital part of the KU Law community and for contributing to the success of future generations of Jayhawk lawyers.
