Biography

Quinton Lucas joined the faculty of the University of Kansas School of Law in 2012. Since joining the faculty, he has spoken throughout the country on topics concerning contract law and government regulation of business enterprises, particularly in the financial services industry. He primarily teaches in the subject areas of contracts, securities regulation and federal administrative law.  
 
In addition to his teaching and scholarship, Lucas is active in government service. In June 2019, he was elected as mayor of Kansas City, Missouri. Previously, he was a member of the City Council of Kansas City, Missouri, where he served on committees overseeing the city’s planning and economic development priorities and transportation and infrastructure investments.  
 
Prior to entering academia, Lucas was in private practice focused on commercial disputes and government investigations of financial fraud. He has also volunteered with prison authorities in New York and Kansas, teaching courses on constitutional law in prison facilities.  
 
Lucas earned a J.D. at Cornell University and an A.B. from Washington University. Upon graduation from law school, he served as a law clerk to Judge Duane Benton of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
