Eric Preheim - Student Ambassador

1L | Newton, Kansas | Bethel College
Hi! My name is Eric Preheim, and I am a first-year law student from Newton, just north of Wichita. I graduated from Bethel College with degrees in business and psychology. After college, I accepted a position as an admissions counselor at my alma mater. What I expected to be a two-year stint turned into a ten-year career in college admissions. During my time at Bethel, I eventually became the director of admissions, a role that helped me better understand my strengths and interests as I considered my next career.
I believe a career in law will be a good blend of interesting, challenging and rewarding for me. Like when I began my undergraduate studies, I didn't have a specific focus for my career, other than returning to practice in rural Kansas. When I decided to attend law school, I applied and visited far and wide. KU stood out to me in several respects. The value of a highly rated law school at an affordable price, the college-town atmosphere of Lawrence and, most importantly, the people who made KU the right choice for me. The students, faculty and staff were welcoming and supportive from the beginning.
In my short time at KU, I've felt reassured in my decision to not only go to law school, but to be a Jayhawk. None of my family are attorneys, so this process has all been very new to me. I thought it would be challenging to come back to school after ten years without a legal background. Many people are in similar situations, and everyone has made friends quickly among the student body.
When I'm not working on schoolwork, I spend much of my time with my wife, our dog and cat. I'm happy to discuss what it's like to balance law school and family life with any prospective student. Additionally, I enjoy playing sports, reading books and cheering on the Chiefs and KU. If you have any questions at all, please reach out to me.
