Hi! I'm Keegan Heaney Fredrick, a 2L from Fredericksburg, Virginia. I graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 2022, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Security and Conflict Studies. During my undergraduate and summer post-graduation, I interned with the Department of Transportation on equity issues in the realm of traffic safety. This work inspired me to pursue a legal career after learning the intricacies of the department's efforts at national, state and local governmental levels. In between graduating from college and beginning law school I additionally worked as a campaign organizer on the 2022 congressional campaign for Abigail Spanberger and taught high school-level English in my hometown. In between my work endeavors, I traveled to Canada, England, Ireland and Scotland as well. Ultimately, I chose to continue my education through law school to expand my knowledge and abilities to engage in social justice issues in my future career.
As a female with a physical disability and 2nd generation American, it was incredibly important to join a learning community that fostered diversity and inclusivity while cultivating academic growth among students. I ultimately chose KU Law because of its welcoming atmosphere and focus on understanding the complexities of law through multiple perspectives. Additionally, KU Law provides unique opportunities to engage in the legal community both within and outside of the law school. Whether through networking, lunch and learns or the various organizations, my learning has been cultivated through in-class activities and the numerous opportunities available for KU Law students. Since becoming a KU Law student, I have most enjoyed engaging with KU Law's inclusive community of students and faculty while also learning about the law through various unique opportunities.
I am always happy to share my experiences and excitement about being a Jayhawk at KU Law. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
