Ben DeKoning - Dean's Fellows

3L, Andover, Kansas | Kansas State University
Ben is a 3L from Andover, Kansas. He attended Kansas State for his undergraduate degree, where he graduated with a bachelor's in Biological Systems Engineering and a minor in Philosophy. Ben is involved in several organizations throughout the law school and currently serves as the Managing Editor of the Kansas Law Review, the President of the Student Intellectual Property Law Association and Class President of the Student Bar Association. Ben also competes on council for KU Law’s Mock Trial team, and is currently studying to take the patent bar this Spring! Following graduation, Ben plans on working in patent prosecution.
Outside Green Hall, you can find Ben in the outdoors or working out — he loves lifting weights, running and playing disc golf.
Ben has two pieces of advice for incoming 1Ls.
First: Be kind. Law school is an incredible opportunity — but it can also be incredibly stressful, especially as everyone finds their footing. It’s important to be mindful of your treatment of others, because your reputation will stay with you far beyond your time in Green Hall.
Second: Have fun, but take law school seriously. While it sounds cliché, you will never have the opportunity you have right now ever again: a blank slate going into law school. From your academic performance to the activities you will be involved with, this Fall is filled with opportunity — don’t let it pass you by!
Ben is looking forward to working with his other Dean’s Fellows to help the incoming class land on their feet!
