Mary Duncan (she/her) is a 2L from Olathe, Kansas. She majored in Chemistry and later earned a master’s in Bioengineering, both at KU. She has lived in Lawrence for 10 years now and doesn’t plan on leaving anytime soon.

In addition to Dean’s Fellows, she is President of KU Law’s LGBTQ+ affinity organization, OUTLaws and Accomplices! During her 1L summer, she was an intellectual property summer associate at Polsinelli and will be returning there next summer.

Outside of law school, she enjoys spending time with her wife, dog, and friends. She likes traveling, watching documentaries, and has recently picked up crochet as a hobby. She also sings a cappella music and spends much of her time coaching groups around the country.

Her advice to incoming 1Ls is to be friendly and try to foster a community in your section.

“You all will be so much happier if you choose to build each other up. There is plenty of space for each and every one of you to find success at KU Law, however that looks for you.”
