Avery Ain Avery is a 2L at KU Law. He is originally from Overland Park, Kansas, but attended Miami University of Ohio for his undergraduate studies. He received a bachelor's degree in political science.

In addition to being a Dean's Fellow, he is also a member of the Business and Tax Law Society and the Sports Law Society. During his 1L summer, he worked for the University of Kansas as a legal intern in its Civil Rights and Title IX office. Outside of law school, he enjoys playing on multiple intramural sports teams, including soccer and basketball.

This fall, Ain is working as an associate in-house for Sporting Kansas City, doing transactional and contract work.

His biggest piece of advice for the incoming 1Ls is to make sure they have an enjoyable work-life balance.

“Staying true to what you enjoy outside of law school is important because the work can take a serious toll on your mental health. Having outlets, like friends and family, allows you to distract yourself from the schoolwork and is just as, if not more important than, the schoolwork.”
