Luke Kappes-Sum is a 2L at KU Law from Shawnee, Kansas. He attended the University of Kansas School of Business, where he earned a degree in business analytics.

At KU Law, Kappes-Sum is involved in Traffic Court, participates in moot court, and works as a research assistant for Professor Peters. During his 1L summer, he interned at the Johnson County District Court, gaining exposure to courtroom proceedings and the judicial process.

Outside of law school, he enjoys anything related to soccer, exploring new fishing spots, and playing Settlers of Catan with friends. His current song of the summer is “Call Me the Breeze,” and if he won the lottery tomorrow, he would buy an airplane and get his pilot’s license.

His biggest advice for 1Ls is to talk to everyone.

"Build relationships with your classmates, take advantage of office hours with professors, and connect with resources like the Career Services Office. KU Law is full of people who want to see you succeed, and making those connections can make all the difference."
