Hi friends! My name is Yuvia Serna and I’m a 2L from the Chicago suburbs. Before law school, I graduated from the University of Kansas with a B.A. in political science and Spanish with a minor in Latin American and Caribbean studies. During my 1L summer, I worked as a summer intern at the National Immigrant Justice Center, under the Immigrant Legal Defense Project, in Chicago.

Aside from being a Dean’s Fellow, I am the 2L representative for the Hispanic American Law Student Association (HALSA), and a member of Women in Law and Balance and Well-Being. This year I’m excited to be spending my time working in the Project for Innocence and Post-Conviction Remedies Clinic.

Outside of law school, I enjoy playing ultimate frisbee, reading books, and I’d like to think I have a green thumb. My best advice for 1L year is to run your own race. Don't fall into the rabbit hole of worrying about how other classmates are approaching law school and do what’s best for you.
