Hi! I’m Madi Stapleton, and I’m a 2L from Olathe, Kansas. I graduated from Western Washington University with an interdisciplinary Feminist Studies degree and a minor in Education & Social Justice.

After graduating in 2020, I stayed in Washington for a year and worked as an organic farmer, research assistant and volunteer mutual aid coordinator in response to COVID-19. A year later I moved back to Kansas City and worked as a paralegal at Gilmore & Bell, P.C. up until coming to KU Law. I have always had some interest in a legal career, and my experiences as an advocate and as a paralegal helped to solidify that this was the path for me.

When starting my law school search, my priority was to find a school in the Midwest that best prepares students to have a breadth of options after graduating, whether that be in Kansas City or out-of-state. I am an indecisive (and curious) person, so I looked for programs that offer opportunities to explore many practice areas. It was also a priority to find an affordable school so that I could pursue jobs I truly want after graduating without being overly concerned about paying off student debt. KU Law matched all of these priorities for me and I feel confident that this program will help me to explore my interests and find meaningful work to do in the world.

The application process is difficult, and it can be very helpful to talk with current students in order to get a feel for what a law school is like beyond what you can find on the website. If you have any questions about attending KU Law, please feel free to reach out!
