Hi, my name is Matt Koegel and I am a 3L from Long Island, New York. I graduated from Stony Brook University in 2020 after majoring in political science and sociology. During my two gap years, I spent time working at a car dealership, as well as the beach!
During my time in undergraduate, I had the opportunity to attend a service-learning trip to Pasadena, California, where we worked to refurbish communal gardens that their public schools had been using to educate the students at those schools and to also give food to those that needed it within their community. This made me want to figure out more ways to get involved, which ultimately led to my decision to attend law school.
When looking for a law school, I knew I wanted something that would put me out of my comfort zone. Having lived in the Northeast my whole life, I primarily looked in the Midwest when applying to law schools. When I visited KU for the first time, I was blown away by how kind and caring everybody here was, and ultimately knew I would end up here.
Being a first-generation law student, I know how overwhelming the application process can seem. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out! KU has been an extremely welcoming and kind place to me, and I’m sure it can be the same for you.
